    Hello Everyone,

    Apologies for the wonky formatting below. The Diversity Committee sent out it's first Newsletter this month.  In case you missed it, I've pasted it below.

    IF you did miss it, check out your spam/junk and be sure to add us to your address book!

    Talk soon,
    Martine

    Welcome to The APA Diversity Committee's first newsletter!

    We are pleased to use this medium as a way to stay connected with you and to share what we are working on.

    As an arm of the APA, we are tasked with clearing a path to success for our traditionally marginalized members who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and women within APA National and its chapters.

    In the next 5 years we hope to build a pipeline and create pathways for success through:

    a.   Partnerships with decision-makers in agencies and businesses;

    b.   Mentorship and skills-based training for high-school students and young adults;

    c.   Events providing career advice and networking;

    d.   Peer-to-peer, agency, and representation through portfolio reviews

    Here are a few programs and initiatives we're focused on in 2022 and since our founding that aim to clearing a path to success for our underrepresented members.

    Scope is an interview series encompassing Diversity that is designed to help us all understand and consider the challenges of our peers and find solutions for better working environments.

    Intro to Photographic Careers

    In October, we are proudly launching a pilot program targeting high school and college-age students who have shown an interest in professional pathways in the world of commercial photography. During this interactive half-day workshop participants will move through a mock photo set where they will get the chance to meet and work with professional photographers and crew through a series of guided activities. The workshop aims to introduce the students to the various paths in the photo industry and plug them into the APA network at the start of their careers.

    We hope this pilot workshop will help us understand how we may create similar programs in the future  to create a pipeline to the industry for underrepresented youth.

    Finding an Artist Rep.

    Building and expanding your network is an important aspect to creating a sustainable business. We are working on a program to help BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and women members gain access to artist representatives.

    Mentorship

    Good mentorship can be the rocket fuel to a photographer's journey. In the next few years, we hope to launch a Mentorship Program for our BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and women members.

    Welcome Packet

    This Welcome Packet is a resource that identifies all offerings APA has for all members and for our traditionally marginalized members; BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and women.
